Julia served as First Selectman from 1989 to 1991 and as a selectman from 1991 to 1996. Julia is eager to serve the town once again as First Selectman. She will bring to the position considerable personal and leadership skills. She can listen, plan, and follow through to carry out the town’s business by a fair and open process. She is very capable of making a continuous review of the current and future needs of the town as directed by the charter. This is one of the most important functions of the office, as well as being in charge of the day to day operations. Her top priority in these difficult economic times will be to keep taxes under control keeping in mind that the time has come to expand our commercial tax base.

Julia has a long history of volunteer service to the town serving on the Recreation Commission as Chairman, Planning & Zoning, Wetlands, Economic Development, and the original Charter Commission. She is currently chairman of the Board of Assessment Appeals and a founding member of the Andover Historical Society. She was instrumental in the building of the Long Hill ball field complex and the new firehouse.

Julia Haverl and her husband Ronald moved to Andover in 1969 because they felt that Andover was a good place to raise their children, Christina Tamburro of Andover and Carl Haverl of California. Julia is a former teacher, meeting planner, and small business owner, running Long Hill Enterprises, a home based business that sold medical equipment, and Long Hill Gardens Flower Shop. Your vote for Julia is a vote for good future prospects for Andover.

Elaine has been a selectman in town for almost 5 years. She is liaison to several committees – Senior Transportation Committee, Commission on Aging, Economic Development Commission (secretary), Route 6 regional EDC, Vernon Area Cable Advisory Committee and the Website Committee. She is chairman of the Capital Improvement Planning committee. Elaine has lived in Andover for 23 years and raised two sons, Dan and Sam Keener, along with her husband Don Keener. Elaine is committed to making Andover a great place to live and would like to continue to serve as a selectman of this fine town.

Linda is a familiar face around Andover. She is currently serving on the Board of Selectman position and has been an active member since her appointment in May 2010. Linda has served as Chair of the Economic Development Commission where she helped develop & print the first Andover Business Directory as well as to provide the Town with the first Andover Business Fair. This successful event showcased local businesses as they came to display their business for local residents. She has served 5 years as an Alternate on Inland Wetlands & Watercourse Commission and helped with the Holiday Committee to provide food & gifts during the Holidays.

Linda brings much energy to the Boards she serves on with her 20+ years of Insurance & Risk Management skills. She is currently the Regional Vice President for Church Insurance Agency Corporation where she has been employed for the past 12 years. Her years of business experience, professionalism, management skills and positive attitude are always applied to the task at hand.
She regularly attends the Friday Senior luncheons where she learns of the concerns of our elderly population including the need for a Senior Center and upgrades to the current Old Firehouse.

Linda & her husband Dave, who grew up in Andover have 3 grown children. In her spare time, she loves to go camping, gardening and enjoys meeting and conversing with residents.

I’ve been an Andover resident since moving here from Storrs with my family in 1975.  I’m a UCONN civil engineering graduate and have worked as a civil-environmental engineer and surveyor for the past 37 years.  During much of my career I’ve rendered professional services to private and municipal clients statewide and have over 8 years of full time municipal service as a town engineer and as a public works director.  I have also worked for the Connecticut DEP since 1995, most recently as a civil engineer in the DEP’s engineering services unit in support of the State’s dam safety, flood and erosion control programs.  Some of this experience involved areas of finance and administration such as contracting, cost estimating, municipal public works and department budget preparation for operations, capital outlay, non-recurring expenditures, and capital improvement project planning and budgeting.

My current work with the State has included contracting of dam repair & flood control projects, municipal grant management & coordination (including for STEAP and urban grants), and capital budgeting for state flood control and dam repair projects.   I was also active in Town as a member of the Andover Economic Development Commission (EDC) during the early 1990s and again later as chairman from 1998-2003 when the EDC restarted after 6 years of dormancy.   I am a US Army combat veteran having served in Vietnam during 1968-1969 as an infantry lieutenant and have been an active member of the Andover Memorial Day Committee since 1997.

Marie has served on the Board of Finance in the past and would like to serve again.  Her experience in town government spans over 20 years.  Since moving to Andover in 1972, she has served as a Selectman, Town Clerk, Library Board member, clerk for the RHAM Board of Ed and was the town correspondent for the Hartford Courant for Andover and Bolton.  She graduated from St. John’s University and also has a paralegal degree from Manchester Community College, certification as a municipal clerk and certification as a municipal manager. She and her husband Bob live on Gilead Road.

Susan England has been a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for over 20 years, serving as Vice-Chairman of the Commission.  She was actively involved the preparation of the last two Plan of Development and Conservation and the revisions to the planning and subdivision regulations.  Her goal is to work to encourage smart growth while preserving the rural character of Andover.

Susan graduated from Mount Holyoke College and received a Masters Degree in Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts.  She has been employed as a land use planner at the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission in Springfield, MA and as a health care planner with the State of Connecticut.  In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors for VNA East in Mansfield and has held that position for 17 years.  Susan is currently a health care regulatory consultant.  Susan and her husband John have been residents of Andover for over 25 years and are active volunteers in the town.

I grew up in Andover, attended AES and RHAM, and have lived in town for much of my life.  I graduated from UCONN with a degree in biophysics and work there as a researcher and lab manager.  I served in both the United States Army and National Guard as an enlisted soldier and later as an officer.  I enjoy living in Andover and would like to give back to the community. I am currently serving as an alternate P+Z member.  I will continue to work to balance the need for smart growth with preserving the rural character of Andover.  I have an open mind and will listen to all sides and respect the needs of property owners as well as the surrounding community.  I ask you to vote for me.

Dorothy has lived in Andover for over twenty years. She recently retired from RHAM High School and has been on Zoning Board of Appeals for two terms. During that time she has attended several comprehensive workshops on legal issues and zoning background that she feels makes her a competent member of the Board, particularly with so many new members this year.

I am an Andover resident of 19 years and have been active in service to the town throughout my time here in Andover serving on the wetlands commission nearly the entire time and also having served on the committee to set up our present transfer station. I have served on the ZBA in the past and I am presently serving on the Board of Finance. I have been active in the community in other capacities as well having been a member of the board of the Andover Lake Property Owners Association and also having been an active participant in town recreational athletics for our children.

John has been the treasurer of the Andover Fire Commission for the past 6 years.  He has been a career firefighter for the past 30 years, holding every rank up to and including Deputy chief.   He holds a BS in Public Administration/ Fire Protection from CCSU.  He has made his home in Andover with his wife Barbara, for the past 20 years.  They have a 15 year old son, Jake.

Kim, her husband of 32 years, and their elementary school-aged son have lived in Andover since 1992. She has been engaged various town activities for many years, serving still on the town Recreation Commission and as a member of the member of the Women’s Auxilliary of the Fire Department. Her dedication to the children of the town has lead her to a successful first term on the Board of Education. Kim brings to the Board her experience of twenty years in Human Services. She is a certified fishing instructor and a dedicated crafter. Kim appreciates the confidence the town has shown in electing her to the Board and hopes she has shown her self worthy of another term.

Cathy has been a resident of Andover, CT for the past 22 years. She moved to Andover to begin a small business directing and implementing a childcare center licensed for 23 children. The childcare center served the community for 13 years. Cathy has been an active member of the Andover community participating on committees with the Andover Congregational Church, Andover Cub Scouts and the Andover PTA and COOL program. She had three children graduate from the Andover and RHAM school systems and always felt that her children were given a superior and supported education.

Currently, Cathy has master degrees in Early Childhood and Special Education and works as a special education teacher in the Hartford School District. Cathy believes that learning is a life long process and she is currently working on the Autism Spectrum Disorder certificate program presented by Saint Joseph College. She is excited to run for the Board of Education as she has been involved and committed to the education of children for a long time and serving on the board will be a new and exciting angle.

I want to serve on the RHAM Board to help Andover students receive a top quality education that prepares them for both college and non-college pursuits. My background is in public education as an Industrial Arts teacher, and in business as an instructor, technical writer, and curriculum developer. Currently, I run the apprenticeship program at Pratt & Whitney, working closely with the community colleges to create training programs for aerospace manufacturing. I work with adult students every day and see the importance of secondary school preparation for adult learning, especially for students who did not go on to college.

I have lived in Andover for 23 years with my wife, Elaine Buchardt and two sons, Dan and Sam Keener (both graduates of RHAM). I have been a den leader, cub master, assistant scoutmaster, coach for soccer, basketball and baseball, fundraiser event organizer, and currently serve as chairman of the Andover Democratic Town Committee and as a member of the Charter Review Commission.

If you honor me with your vote, I promise to show-up at meetings to represent Andover’s interests, and that no one will work harder for you, than me.

I have lived in Andover with my husband Dennis for more than 35 years and we have raised our three children here. I have been a Brownie and a Girl Scout leader and have taught Sunday school at our church. I was fortunate to have served on the Andover Board of Education, chairman for 11 years, and on several building committees. I have a degree in environmental science from UCONN working in the field of horticultural and continuing my studies with additional courses in soil science, environmental law and real estate.

The Board of Assessment Appeals has been delegated eight distinct powers by State Statutes and is charged to serve as an appeal body for taxpayers who believe the assessor erred in the valuation of their property or erroneously denied them exemptions. I understand the commitment needed to serve on this board and required to make informed decisions regarding the taxpayer’s right to due process. I would welcome the opportunity to serve on the BAA.
